The singer announced via her social media that she has become the victim of an extortion scheme, where an unidentified perpetrator is using her identity to solicit money from her close contacts, including family and friends.

Areum, who has recently been in the news due to her ongoing divorce proceedings, made it clear that despite being hospitalized, she does not face any financial difficulties that would necessitate borrowing money. The announcement came as a cause of concerns that the extortion attempts might mislead her acquaintances into believing she is in financial distress.

The former idol’s ordeal came to light on March 23 when she decided to break her silence about the situation. Areum has reported the matter to the police. She revealed that the extortionists had gone to great lengths to fabricate evidence to support their fraudulent claims, creating a situation that could easily deceive those who are unaware of her actual circumstances.
